“And when Jesus had been baptized, just as he came up from the water, suddenly the heavens were opened to him and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him” (Matthew 3:16).

"And John testified, ‘I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him. I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water said to me, “He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit” (John 1:32-33).

Week of January 23, 2011 - 3 Epiphany
“As he walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the lake —for they were fishermen. And he said to them, ‘Follow me, and I will make you fish for people’ ” (Matthew 4:18-19).

“Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth” (Matthew 5:5).

Week of February 6, 2011 - 5 Epiphany
“No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:15-16).

Week of February 13, 2011 - 6 Epiphany
“If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away; it is better for you to lose one of your members than for your whole body to be thrown into hell” (Matthew 5:29).

Week of February 20, 2011 - 7 Epiphany
“But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” (Matthew 5:44).

“God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him” (John 3:17).

"Peter answered him, ‘Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.’ He said, ‘Come.’ So Peter got out of the boat, started walking on the water, and came towards Jesus. But when he noticed the strong wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, ‘Lord, save me!’ Jesus immediately reached out his hand and caught him, saying to him, ‘You of little faith, why did you doubt?’" (Matthew 14:28-31).

"Then Jesus called the crowd to him and said to them, ‘Listen and understand: it is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but it is what comes out of the mouth that defiles’" (Matthew 15:10-11).

"Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people that produces the fruits of the kingdom" (Matthew 21:43).

"For many are called, but few are chosen" (Matthew 22:14).

"Then Jesus said to them, ‘Whose head is this, and whose title?’ They answered, ‘The emperor’s.’ Then Jesus said to them, ‘Give therefore to the emperor the things that are the emperor’s, and to God the things that are God’s’"(Matthew 22:20-21).

Week of October 23, 2011 - 19 Pentecost, Proper 25
"Jesus said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.' This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets" (Matthew 22:37-40).

Week of October 30, 2011 - 20 Pentecost, Proper 26
"All who exalt themselves will be humbled, and all who humble themselves will be exalted" (Matthew 23:12).

Week of November 6, 2011 - 21 Pentecost, Proper 27
"Keep awake therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour" (Matthew 25:13).

Week of November 13, 2011 - 22 Pentecost, Proper 28
"For to all those who have, more will be given, and they will have an abundance; but from those who have nothing, even what they have will be taken away" (Matthew 25:29).

Week of November 20, 2011 - Last Sunday After Pentecost / Christ the King
"Then the king will say to those at his right hand, 'Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me'” (Matthew 25:34-36).
