White, Edwin Augustine  

(Dec. 27, 1854-July 6, 1925). Priest and noted canon lawyer. He was engaged in law before studying theology. He was ordained deacon on Dec. 18, 1887, and priest on Oct. 31, 1888. He taught canon law at the General Theological Seminary, Bexley Hall, and Western Theological Seminary. White was a deputy to eight General Conventions, from 1901 to 1922, and he served as chair of the Committee on Canons of Convention from 1913 until his death. He wrote a number of books on canon law, the most significant being Constitution and Canons for the Government of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America, Adopted in General Conventions, 1789-1922, Annotated, with an Exposition of the Same, and Reports of Such Cases as Have Arisen and Been Decided Thereunder, published by order of the House of Deputies (1924). In 1954 it was edited by Jackson Arman Dykman (1887-1974), and titled Annotated Constitution and Canons for the Government of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America, Adopted in General Conventions, 1789-1952, 2d ed., 2 vols.
