Good News Bible (The Bible in Today's English Version)

An English translation of the Bible, published by the American Bible Society. The NT translation was published in 1966, and the OT translation was published in 1976. This Bible translation is presented in contemporary style and language. The Good News Bible does not always seek to have an exact, word-by-word translation. A modern term may be substituted to express the correct meaning of the original text. For example, "the heavens and the earth" is at times translated as "the universe." Some have described it as a paraphrase rather than a precise translation. It includes an introduction to each book and notes which often indicate other possible translations of a word or phrase. The Good News Bible is authorized for use in the worship of the Episcopal Church.
