Episcopal Relief and Development is providing emergency assistance to 200 students in Dodoma, Tanzania, after a fire destroyed most of the Kondoa Bible School complex. The fire destroyed buildings and other structures including five dormitories, food storehouses, and barns containing cattle, goats, and sheep. All students escaped safely but lost books, clothes, and other personal possessions.
"The fire started in the kitchen at midnight and was sparked by an electrical shortage," said the Rt. Rev. Yohana Mkavu, Bishop of the Diocese of Kondoa. "Students need food, medicine, clothing, and emergency shelter," said Bishop Mkavu.
On behalf of the Episcopal Church, Episcopal Relief and Development has advanced emergency funds to the Diocese of Kondoa to provide food, bedding, and shelter for students at the Kondoa Bible School. ERD is also providing supplies to build temporary classrooms.
