National Cathedral continues series on "Wholehearted Faith in Time of Factions"

The free Fall series “Wholehearted Faith in a Time of Factions” continues at the Washington National Cathedral on November 17 and 20 with Marcus Borg, and Julia Cameron respectively.
Borg, a best-selling author who has spent a lifetime critiquing the vision of Christianity that many people grew up with: its literal understanding of the Bible, absolute adherence to particular ethical teachings, and exclusive belief that Christianity is the only saving faith, will be speaking on the topic “A Thinking Person’s Take on Christianity with a Mystical Twist.”

Borg now advocates for what he calls an “emerging” vision of “wholehearted” Christianity, one that involves loving God and loving what God loves, and letting go of self-preoccupation in favor of a life centered in the sacred.
He will follow his 7:30 pm lecture with a signing of his latest book The Heart of Christianity.

Cameron, an active artist for more than 30 years, best-selling author of The Artist’s Way and The Right to Write and catalyst of a new human potential movement centered on creativity, will be speaking on the topic “A Spiritual Toolkit for Your Creative Life.”

In this day-long workshop, Cameron will lead people through questions about their blocks, making lists, some personal narrative, and a question and answer session. She promises you’ll find her “spiritual toolkit” valuable “for the first time or the twentieth time.”

Cameron believes all of the arts draw from “a certain bedrock level of personal daring” to be creative at all and then to take risks in self-expression.

Her workshop will take place from 10am – 4pm.

The following title is available from the Episcopal Book and Resource Center, 815 Second Avenue, New York, NY 10017; 800-334-7626;

From the publishers: For the millions of people who have turned away from many traditional beliefs about God, Jesus, and the Bible, but still long for a relevant, nourishing faith, Borg shows why the Christian life can remain a transforming relationship with God. Emphasizing the critical role of daily practice in living the Christian life, he explores how prayer, worship, Sabbath, pilgrimage, and more can be experienced as authentically life-giving practices.

Marcus J. Borg is Hundere Distinguished Professor of Religion and Culture at Oregon State University and author of the bestselling Meeting Jesus Again for the First Time.
