Toward Columbus: Convention office seeks recommendations for CCABs

[Episcopal News Service]  The committees, commissions, agencies and boards (CCABs) of the Episcopal Church's General Convention need new volunteers to help them carry out the work assigned to them by convention.

The CCABs receive resolutions from General Convention and set policies for their implementation during the following three years until the next convention.

The Rev. Gregory Straub, executive officer of the General Convention, has issued a call to the church for recommendations. A form for recommending people to serve on CCABs for a six-year term is available at

After General Convention concludes on June 21, the 26th Presiding Bishop and the newly elected President of the House of Deputies will make their appointments to the CCABs. Except for the House of Deputies Committee on the State of the Church; the Joint Standing Committee on Program, Budget and Finance and the Joint Standing Committee on Nominations, it is not necessary that nominees be bishops or deputies.

Most CCABs meet between two and four times each year, and all members must agree to serve a six-year term.

Recommendations are being accepted from now until 6:00 p.m. on June 20, the eighth legislative day of General Convention, and may be faxed to the General Convention Office at (212) 972-9322 or delivered to the General Convention Secretariat office in the Greater Columbus Convention Center during General Convention.

Sandy Webb, assistant to the Convention's Deputy Executive Officer, the Rev. Anthony Jewiss, is available to answer any questions about making recommendations. He can be reached at
