Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori
Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori, an airplane pilot and former oceanographer, is the first woman in Anglicanism's nearly 520-year history to lead a church province as its chief bishop. She was elected June 18 by her colleagues in the House of Bishops from among seven nominees. The House of Deputies confirmed her election the same day.


Formal Seating
Washington National Cathedral's 11 am All Saints’ Sunday liturgy on November 5 included the formal seating of the Most Reverend Katharine Jefferts Schori in the seat symbolic of her office. Jefferts Schori presided and preached.

Episcopal News Services offers two bulletin inserts to help congregations understand and celebrate the investiture and seating of Nevada Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori as the 26th Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church. November 4 Investiture and November 5 Installation


In rites on November 4–5 at Washington National Cathedral, the Episcopal Church will welcome the Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori as its 26th Presiding Bishop. The investiture will occur in the context of a Eucharistic celebration at 11 am on Saturday, November 4. The cathedral's 11 am All Saints' Sunday liturgy on November 5 will include the formal seating of Bishop Jefferts Schori in the seat symbolic of her office. Presiding Bishop Jefferts Schori will preside and preach at this service and will be webcast by the cathedral.
