Mission Center: The Episcopal Church: Community

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Where can I find a list of Episcopal retirement communities?

A: There is a page on the Church Pension Group website that lists them. Click here for more information.

Q: What happened to the Episcopal Society for Ministry on Aging (ESMA)?

A: ESMA voted to close its office in October 1999 due to declining support and membership. According to ESMA President Barbara Dobrosky, since 1995, the first year ESMA was excluded from the budget of the national church, costs of its operation exceeded income. Currently, the Episcopal Task Force on Older Adult Ministry (OAM) has taken up where ESMA left off. For more information on OAM, click here.

Q: My father is in a nursing home in another state. How can I arrange to have a Eucharist visit for him?

A: If you don't already know which diocese he is in, go here to find out. Then contact the diocese. (Click here for a list of diocesan websites.) They can help you find a church near your father's nursing home that makes Eucharistic visits.
