Mission Center: Mission Leadership

Province VIII - Andrea de la Torre

Self-motivated student at Sacramento City College with a strong spiritual resolve. My desire to help my community originated by participating in the Short Internship Program (SIP) provided by the Episcopal Church. SIP is a volunteer service oriented internship that gave me the opportunity to volunteer at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church with their health clinic, after-school program, and food and cloths closet. In addition I volunteered in the front office department and in the children’s program at St. John’s Shelter Program for Women and Children. As an intern I was accepted to a community service and campus ministry housing program, known as Faith and Leadership Program. FLP became a stepping stool to the National Episcopal Church Campus Ministry gatherings and leadership conferences. I was a delegate to the United Nations Commission of status of women (UNCSW) were my interest and passion for being involved gave me a better  understanding of my need to help strive for social justice and working towards building a better global community.
